Standard of Review We review the district court’s decision to permit the government to cover matters not covered in its direct examination for an abuse of discretion. “[T]he conduct of a criminal trial is a matter within the discretion of the trial court and such discretion will not be disturbed in the absence of a clear showing of abuse.” United States v.
