Rather, we conclude that the constitutionally permissible reasons for the firing are “both true and a sufficient basis for [the dismissal], such that the same decision would have been made in the absence of constitutionally protected expression.” Love v. Sessions, 568 F.2d 357, 361 (5th Cir. 1978). 9 Therefore, we hold that the discharge of Officer Smith was constitutionally permissible. 10 Having determined that the police department acted constitutionally in discharging Officer Smith, we can briefly dispose of the other issues involved in this appeal.
