The free tier is real and it is staying. Pro buys the fast lane: your searches run on the dedicated index this site keeps warm on its own hardware, ahead of everybody else, with call limits high enough that you will not think about them. Thirty dollars a month, cancel in two clicks, no salesperson will ever call you.
Searches run against a content-bearing full-text index held in RAM on this practice’s own hardware, not a shared cloud copy. Typical case search: about a second, with real highlighted snippets rather than a truncated preview.
Free and anonymous traffic is metered so the shared index cannot be swamped. Pro requests are never held behind that meter — they go first, including when the server is busy.
Anonymous use is capped at 20 calls a day per address, and a free account gets 1,000 searches a month with unlimited citation checks, treatment, brief audits and statutes. Pro runs at the full per-subscriber ceiling, which exists only to stop a runaway script, not you.
Nothing in the library is held back for paying customers: same 10.7 million opinions, same treatment flags, same statutes for all fifty states. Pro buys speed and headroom, not access to different books.

The toolset page explains how every tool actually works, mechanism by mechanism, because you should not pay for a research tool that will not explain itself.
Your research is not logged. Not your search terms, not the parties or citations you check, not the opinions you read, not a brief you paste in. What is kept is operational: which tool ran, whether it succeeded, how long it took. Paying for the service does not change that, and neither does anything Stripe knows — Stripe has your billing details, this server has your email address and a plan record, and the two never meet your research.
