43-9-2. Creation of board; members; qualifications; residence requirements; terms.

There is created and established a board to be known as the Georgia Board of Chiropractic Examiners. The board shall be composed of five practicing chiropractors who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of the Secretary of State and confirmation by the Senate. Such members shall be of good moral character, residents of the state, and graduates of chartered chiropractic schools or colleges requiring actual attendance in same and shall have practiced chiropractic continuously and resided in the state for a period of at least five years.

The board shall, in addition to the five members provided for in subsection (a) of this Code section, consist of a sixth member who shall be appointed by the Governor from the public at large and who shall not be in any way connected to practicing chiropractic. The initial term for such member shall expire June 30, 1983; successors appointed on or after July 1, 1995, shall be appointed for a term of five years.

On or after July 1, 1995, not more than one member of the board shall be appointed who resides in any one congressional district, with the exception of the member appointed from the public at large. Board members appointed on or after July 1, 1995, shall be appointed for terms of five years and may be appointed to serve for no more than two consecutive five-year terms in addition to any unexpired term of office that member may have filled.
