RULE 802. THE RULE AGAINST HEARSAY

Hearsay is not admissible unless any of the following provides otherwise:

• A statute; • These rules; or • Other rules prescribed by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

The restyled rule leaves out the definition of “as provided by law” inserted in Maine Rule 802 in favor of the federal approach of listing the alternative sources of hearsay exceptions. __________________________________________________________________
