Rule 26. COMPUTATION AND EXTENSION OF TIME. (a) Computation of time. In computing any period of time prescribed by these rules, an order of court, or any applicable statute, the day of the act, event, or default from which the designated period of time begins to run shall not be included. The last day of the period shall be included, unless it is a Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday, in which event the period extends until the end of the next day that is not a Saturday, a Sunday, or a holiday. When the period of time prescribed or allowed is less than 7 days, any intervening Saturday, Sunday, or holiday shall be excluded in the computation. As used in these Rules, “holiday” shall mean any day designated as such pursuant to section 8-1 of the Revised Statutes. (b) Extension of time. The Hawaiʻi Hawaiʻi appellate courts, or any judge or justice thereof, for good cause shown upon motion may extend the time prescribed by these rules for doing any act, or may permit an act to be done after the expiration of such time.
