Rule 4 of these rules. (c) Additional time after service by mail. Whenever a party is required or permitted to do an act within a prescribed time after service of a document, and the document is served by mail, 2 extra days shall be added to the prescribed period. (d) Shortening time. A judge or justice for good cause shown may shorten the time for serving or filing a notice of motion or other document incident to an appeal or an original proceeding in the reviewing court. A motion to shorten time shall be made as provided in Rule 27. (e) Relief from default. The reviewing court for good cause shown may relieve a party from a default occasioned by any failure to comply with these rules, except the failure to give timely notice of appeal.
